This is Bachmann 19510 HO 55t 2-Bay Outside Braced Hopper NYC/Big Four. Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago, and St Louis Railway 55 ton USRA outside braced 2 bay hopper car. Based on the ones built in 1917. A hopper car is a type of railroad freight car used to transport loose bulk commodities such as coal, ore, grain, and track ballast. This type of car is distinguished from a gondola car in that it has opening doors on the underside or on the sides to discharge its cargo. The development of the hopper car went along with the development of automated handling of such commodities, with automated loading and unloading facilities. Most steel hoppers followed what quickly became the standard layout of two saw tooth hoppers and outside bracing for the sides. Its key features are: Fully assembled model Blackened metal wheels with RP25 contours Body mounted EZ Mate couplers Non-magnetic blackened brass axles with needle point bearing Celcon trucks Added weight for optimum tracking Removable coal load
