Lionel 224 Vintage O Gauge Postwar 2-6-2 Die-Cast Steam Locomotive

Lionel 224 Vintage O Gauge Postwar 2-6-2 Die-Cast Steam Locomotive

Here is a Lionel 224 Vintage O Gauge Postwar 2-6-2 Die-Cast Steam Locomotive from the 1940s. A tender is not included with this Locomotive. The 224 is one of the few Lionel engines made in both the Prewar and Postwar eras. It features a die cast metal body, rounded cab floor, motor, 3-position E-Unit, and an operating headlight. It does not have a smoke unit, which is why it was dropped from the Lionel line after 1946 and replaced by the smoking 675/2025 engines.

Brought onto the scene in the late 19th century and continuing use into the early 20th century, the 2-6-2 was a durable little model with some even surviving through the first World War seeing continued use in smaller capacities. These models were used for a variety of purposes from hauling coal loads to pulling smaller passenger cars. The North American model soon became known as the "Prairie" model and would quickly become a favorite in rail-yards around the world!

This item has been graded per TCA standards C-5: Good based on visual appearance. There are light nicks and scratches on the surface of the shell and chassis. This item has small spots of rusting. The wheels show average run-time. This item has been out on display previously and its overall appearance could be significantly improved with a thorough dusting or a light wipe down. The instruction manual is not included. The original box is not included. Please check the photos for a detailed look at this item. Overall condition is Good.
