Lionel 224 Vintage O Gauge Postwar 2-6-2 Die-Cast Steam Locomotive

Here is a Lionel 224 Vintage O Gauge Postwar 2-6-2 Die-Cast Steam Locomotive from the 1940s. A tender is not included with this Locomotive. The 224 is one of the few Lionel engines made in both the Prewar and Postwar eras. It features a die cast metal body, rounded cab floor, motor, 3-position E-Unit, and an operating headlight. It does not have a smoke unit, which is why it was dropped from the Lionel line after 1946 and replaced by the smoking 675/2025 engines.

Brought onto the scene in the late 19th century and continuing use into the early 20th century, the 2-6-2 was a durable little model with some even surviving through the first World War seeing continued use in smaller capacities. These models were used for a variety of purposes from hauling coal loads to pulling smaller passenger cars. The North American model soon became known as the "Prairie" model and would quickly become a favorite in rail-yards around the world!

The wheels show average run-time. This item has been out on display previously and its overall appearance could be significantly improved with a thorough dusting or a light wipe down.
