Lionel 6-11147 Pennsylvania M1b 4-8-2 Steam Loco & Tender #6750 with LEGACY LN/Box

Lionel 6-11147 Pennsylvania M1b 4-8-2 Steam Loco & Tender #6750 with LEGACY LN/Box

Here is a Lionel 11147 Pennsylvania 4-8-2 M1b Steam Locomotive and Tender. First built in the 1920’s, Pennsylvania Railroad’s 200 M-class “Mountain” locomotives quickly earned legendary status for their phenomenal freight hauling power. Engineers and executives alike referred to these 4-8-2’s as “Pennsy’s best,” and promptly went on to add an additional 100 M1a-class locomotives to the Pennsy roster in 1930. Built by Baldwin, Juniata, and Lima, the M1a class highlighted some key improvements from the previous Mountains. A boxlike Worthington feedwater heater was installed behind the stack, two air compressors (instead of one) were attached at the left side of the locomotive, and a “coast-to-coast” tender with a cab installed on the deck replaced the shorter originals. Beginning in 1946, some of the M1a class locomotives underwent further improvements. Circulators were installed in the firebox and steam pressure was increased, which boosted tractive effort from 64,550 to 69,700 lbs. Other changes were more visibly pronounced, including the addition of a generator on the smokebox front, a smokebox-mounted platform for servicing the generator, and a solid pilot instead of the earlier slatted version. In all, 41 M1a class locomotives were rebuilt and reclassified M1b. For 2008, Lionel recreates Pennsylvania M1b #6750 in its upgraded appearance after 1946. This scale locomotive is updated to include all the best Lionel has to offer, including LEGACY Command Control and Odyssey II. The highly detailed 210F75 12- wheel tender comes equipped with LEGACY RailSounds and dual, state-of-the-art FatBoy speakers. Other features for this locomotive include a high-torque Pittman® motor with momentum flywheel, a wireless tether connection between locomotive and tender, an ElectroCoupler on rear of tender, directional lighting, including operating headlight and back-up light, illuminated classification and marker lights, die-cast metal locomotive body, frame, and trucks, scale front coupler with interchangeable O gauge coupler, two traction tires, synchronized fan-driven smoke unit with adjustable smoke output, separately applied metal details, accurate separately-applied builder’s plates, illuminated cab interior, authentically detailed cab interior, cab window glass, variable ashpan glow, flickering firebox in cab, engineer and fireman figures, die-cast metal tender body and trucks, illuminated doghouse with brakeman figure and individually opening tender water hatches reveal easy-to-access RailSounds controls. This locomotive measures 28 1/2 inches long and operates on a minimum O-54 curve radius.
