Lionel 6-1664 Illinois Central Gulf Freight Train Set VG/Box
This is a Lionel 1664 Illinios Central Gulf Freight Big 027 Gauge Electric Train Set. Included in this set is a 8669 Illinois Central U36B Diesel engine with headlight, transformer controlled forward-neutral-reverse operation, a 9606 Union Pacific Hi-Cube boxcar, a 9870 Dutch Cleanser Reefer, a 9764 Grand Trunk Double Door boxcar, a 9767 Rail Box Boxcar, a 9854 Baby Ruth Billboard Reefer, a 9178 Illinois Central Lighted Caboose, a 2317 Remote Controlled Drawbridge, 12-curved track sections, 9-straight track sections, 1-straight remote un-coupling track, 2-half straight track sections, a manual switch, a track bumper and TrainMaster transformer. The engine features a powerful motor, operating headlight, die-cast metal truck sides, operating knuckle couplers, metal wheels and axles. The big feature of this set is the remote control drawbridge. When the bridge is impassable, the train stops automatically, the bridge is raised and lowered by remote control, when it is passable, the trains starts up automatically. The track layout makes an 80" X 27" figure-8, switch and 40" spur.
This item has been graded per TCA standards C-6: Very Good based on visual appearance. The prior owner replaced some of the track sections; there are 13 straight pieces and some have black ties; there are two manual switches and the track bumper is missing. The prior owner replaced some of the boxcars; the Dutch Reefer and Grand Truck boxcar are missing. Some of the trucks are loose from the chassis and and the wheels show faint wear. The track rails are scratched and tarnished and there is faint rust along some. The original box is included but the direction sheet is missing.
