Lionel 6-18992 Southern Pacific ALCO S-2 Diesel Switcher #1440 LN/Box
The American Locomotive Company’s famous low hood switchers were built at the Schenectady Works from 1940 to 1960. They spent most of their careers classifying freight for Class I railroads, but occasionally ventured out onto the mainline to power locals or to switch passenger trains at stations. Though most of these switchers have met the scrapper’s torch, some still survive today after a half century of service, growling away on short lines and industrial rails. Two new Lionel ALCO S-2 switchers are offered in 2008. They include the new LEGACY Control System, along with Odyssey II Speed Control and LEGACY RailSounds.
Features include… LEGACY Control System equipped, able to run in LEGACY Control mode, TrainMaster Command Control mode or in Conventional mode with a standard transformer, Odyssey II Speed Control with ON/OFF switch, The RailSounds sound system features… CrewTalk dialog and TowerCom announcements, each with different scenarios depending on whether the locomotive is in motion or stopped, Five official railroad speeds with CrewTalk dialog, Eight diesel RPM levels, LEGACY “Real-Time Quilling Horn“ control with instant response for realistic signature “quilling“ and correctly timed warning signals, Single hit or continuous mechanical bell sounds, Directional lighting including LED headlights, Two ElectroCouplers, Powerful maintenance-free motor with momentum flywheel, Traction tires, Fan-driven smoke unit, Die-cast metal trucks and fuel tank, Metal frame and pilots, Separately applied metal details, Lighted number boards, Lighted cab interior and Engineer figures.
The switcher is Standard O Gauge. The length is 12 1/4 inches. The minimum curve radius is O-31.
