Lionel 726RR Vintage O 1952 Berkshire 2-8-4 Die-Cast Steam Locomotive & 2046W VG

Lionel 726RR Vintage O 1952 Berkshire 2-8-4 Die-Cast Steam Locomotive & 2046W VG

Here is a Lionel 726RR Vintage O 1952 Berkshire 2-8-4 Die-Cast Steam Locomotive & 2046W T. The Berkshire -- modeled after a real-life Boston & Albany locomotive -- was a premium locomotive in the Lionel family. Introduced in 1946 as the 726 with a number change to 736 in 1950. Along with the legendary 773 Hudson and the colorful 746 Norfolk & Western J, many consider the 726 Berkshire and its scale-like 2426W tender among the nicest steam locomotive and tender combinations offered in the postwar era. The 736 Berkshire was essentially a 726 but with Magnetraction. The Korean War caused various material shortages in many industries. For Lionel, they were unable to obtain an adequate supply of aluminum and nickel required for Magnetraction. As a result, they were forced to re-introduce the Berkshire without Magnetraction and catalogued it as 726RR. "RR" indicates the locomotive was a re-run. Note that some early 1952 production Berkshires simply carried the plain 726 without the RR. However, those units had more in common with the 736 than the earlier 726. Features include a black painted die-cast shell with silver numbers, full complement of driving hardware, a three-position E-unit, a hinged boiler front, an operating headlight, an operating smoke unit, an ornamental bell and a decorative whistle.

This item has been graded per TCA standards C-6: Very Good based on visual appearance. The smoke unit plunger is missing, so the smoke unit is non-functional. The smoke unit is installed under the shell but was left unwired. There are heavy nicks, scratches, and scuffs along the locomotive. There are areas of paint loss throughout the locomotive. The wheels show heavy signs of previous wear. There are also spots of surface rust/tarnishing along the wheels and axles. The overall appearance of this item may be improved with a gentle and thorough cleaning. The instruction manuals and original boxes are not included with these items. This item has been inspected by our repair shop. Please see the attached picture for inspection details and additional operation information. Overall condition is Very Good.
